Signal Ring Privacy Policy
Vital Signals Health, Inc.
Model: SR1 Smart Ring Companion Application
1. Overview & Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how Vital Signals Health, Inc. (“Vital Signals,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Signal Ring device, the Vital Signals mobile application, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
This policy applies to users located in the United States. The Service is not directed at, and is not currently offered to, individuals outside the United States.
The Service is intended for use by adults age 18 and older. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we've collected information from someone under 18, we will delete it.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
When you create an account, we collect your email address and account credentials. To calibrate Signal Ring's algorithms and personalize your readings, we also collect your height, weight, birth year, and sex assigned at birth. If you have been diagnosed with hypertension, we ask whether that's the case and, if so, whether you currently take blood pressure medication.
2.2 Information Collected Through Signal Ring
Signal Ring's sensors generate both raw and processed health data. Raw PPG (optical sensor) data is sent to our servers to calculate your blood pressure estimates. Raw pulse data is also sent to our servers, currently to calculate heart rate and heart rate variability, and in the future to detect sleep stages once that feature becomes available. The processed outputs of this data, including blood pressure estimates, pulse, heart rate variability, and (in the future) sleep data, are stored in your account and displayed in the app.
2.3 Device & Technical Information
We collect your phone's operating system version, crash logs, and app usage analytics, including data collected through Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, to maintain and improve the Service.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
-
Calculate your health metrics, including blood pressure estimates, pulse, and heart rate variability
-
Improve the accuracy of our algorithms and develop new features
-
Maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the Service, including through internal analytics
-
Communicate with you about your account and the Service
We do not use your health data for advertising, marketing, or targeted advertising purposes, and we do not sell your health data to third parties.
Data collected through clinical research studies conducted by Vital Signals, which involve in-person measurements and a separate consent process, is not connected to or drawn from Signal Ring app user data.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal or health information.
We share information with service providers who help us operate the Service, under obligations to protect it and use it only for the purposes we specify:
-
Algorithm processing: Signal Ring uses licensed algorithm technology from CSEM to calculate pulse and related metrics. This processing occurs on Vital Signals' own servers; CSEM does not receive or have access to identifiable user health data.
-
Analytics: Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics.
-
Cloud hosting: Google Cloud Platform.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of Vital Signals or our users, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
5. Apple Health & Health Connect Integration
Signal Ring integrates with Apple Health (iOS) and Health Connect (Android). This integration is currently one-way: Signal Ring writes data to Apple Health / Health Connect. We do not read data back from your existing Apple Health or Health Connect records into the Signal Ring app.
Signal Ring writes the following data types: blood pressure and heart rate.
You can decline Apple Health / Health Connect access, or revoke it at any time. This has no effect on Signal Ring's core functionality.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
You can delete your account at any time within the Signal Ring app. When you do, your identifying information is deleted immediately. Health data collected through your use of Signal Ring is anonymized and may be retained to improve our algorithms and products. Once anonymized, this data is no longer linked to your identity.
Purchase and transaction records are retained separately from health data for accounting, tax, and warranty purposes, in accordance with applicable recordkeeping requirements.
7. Your Rights & Choices
7.1 Access and Correction
You can view and edit most of your profile information, including height, weight, and hypertension/medication status, directly in the Signal Ring app under Settings. Birth year and sex assigned at birth can be edited once, shortly after initial setup. After that single correction window, these fields are locked, because they are critical inputs to Signal Ring's measurement algorithm and inaccurate entries can affect the reliability of your readings.
7.2 Data Portability
Signal Ring data can be synced to Apple Health or Health Connect, where you can view and export it through those platforms. We do not currently offer a direct data export or download feature within the Signal Ring app itself.
7.3 Deletion
See Section 6 for information on account and data deletion.
7.4 Contact Us
For questions about your data or this policy, contact us at support@signalring.com.
8. Security
Signal Ring uses secure, encrypted connections to transmit data between the ring, the Signal Ring app, and our servers. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 and at rest using AES-256.
Access to identifiable health data is limited to authorized personnel who need it to develop and maintain the Service.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 18 has provided us with information, please contact us at support@signalring.com.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
